RSR Juice Reviews

My Vaping habits.

I vape Dekang RY4 24-26mg PG mix as my day-to-day staple vape, briefly changing to other flavours as a way to refresh the mouth before returning to RY4, lol. As an ex-smoker who enjoyed the flavour of certain tobacco blends, it has somehow managed to follow me through to vaping and I find that it now goes hand in hand with my vaping taste in flavours. I naturally have a sweet tooth for foods but I have found surprising that this does not correspond to my vaping habits at all, in fact it has the very opposite effect, I can grow 'sick' of the overly fruity sweetness of some flavours very quickly. As a result I now exclusively vape tobacco blends, even those with a slightly sweeter note, to my hearts content and never seem to tire of the myriad of uniquely differing tobacco flavours that I vape. Since my switch to Vaping from smoking, I have become more akin to a cigar or pipe smoker and as such I rate the importance of such things as 'mouth' (in reference to flavour) far more than I do vapour production, I also rate the lingering aroma left after vaping as important too, as I feel that it adds to the whole vaping experience and at the same time, it gives depth to my own 'personal signature', in the same way that a good quality cologne creates an ambiance around the wearer.
So briefly, I have tried to give you a quick over view of my taste in E-liquids as a way of allowing you to understand my reviews better, if you love the fruity, sweet-shop style of flavours then you can basically take my reviews with a big old pinch of salt, but if like me, you favour the rich heady aromas that lead down the tobacco path then read on......

Reviewing standards:
Amounts of E-Liquid under test

All e-liquids under review are tested over five (5) tankfuls of the Rok Star, these can be continuous tankfuls or alternate, it makes no odds. Sometimes for reviewing reasons, it is useful to do comparative tankfuls of two or more liquids and this is where alternate tanks is very handy for reviewing purposes. If I manage to vape all five (5) tankfuls the e-liquid scores a five (5) and which is placed in brackets straight after the written review, obviously if I should only manage one (1) tankful then it will only score a one (1).

Review #1 - Dekang Tobacco flavours.

RSR review statement: I purchased the following products myself, at the cost of £1.91 each for 10ml bottle from Health Cabin (please see links page for website details) + P&P.

1. Tobacco 24mg PG - A good slightly sweetish mellow 'draw' with a good hint of smokey tobacco, a nice fairly rich 'mouth' with an exhale that it very akin to a medium strength, sweet tobacco with the slightest hint of a nut aroma. Unfortunately, the richness lacks any substantial depth beyond the sweetness and is far too short-lived, giving rise to a moreish feeling. A good basic slightly sweet tobacco, albeit only as a 9-5 sort of vape, that lacks any real character beyond the very short lived, but very pleasant flavour. A good flavour choice for those of us that are new to vaping tobacco flavours, but for a regular tobacco vaper, it is just a 'suggestive tease' in the right direction. Although I would highly recommend this to new vapers who are wanting a good standard tobacco taste to help 'ween' them off the dreaded weed.(4)

2. Cigar - 24mg PG - A dry tasting, nutty tobacco, smokey draw with good dense vapour production only sullied by an overall 'roasted' flavour, which unfortunately is far too overpowering and as a result it lacks any true depth to the tobacco. Much less of a tobacco, more of a smokey roasted nut flavour, which is totally unappealing. If your a big fan of the 'roasted nut' flavour then this just for You, but if like me, your a tobacco lover then just stay well clear. (2)

3. Flue cured Tobacco 24mg PG - A full on strong deep tobacco flavour ! Deep, smokey, woody, with a lingering mellow richness that makes this an absolute joy to a tobacco vaper. Very close to a real cigarette in taste, even leaves that distinct tobacco after taste. Recommended to those vapers who liked a 'Hand Rolled cigarette', especially those who liked the darker and richer blends like Old Holburn, a good strong flavour that definitely hits the spot for that much needed 'tobacco' taste craving.(5)

4. French Pipe (the bottle is labelled 'FPF') 24mg PG - A very pleasant, incredibly moreish, medium strength deep tobacco flavour, bordering on an mellow cigar taste. This is one to lose yourself into, it's strength lies in it's subtle moreish nature, in fact I found myself pleasantly 'drifting' away whilst vaping it, only ever briefly coming back to reality to refill my tank and then return to my previous tranquil state. Perfect for that silent moment alone, where we hit the 'pause' button of life and steal just a few minutes for ourselves. An altogether 'lush' character, with it's deep, yet mellow tones, with the merest hint of 'Dolce de Leche', make this an absolute pleasure to vape. (5)

5. Turkish Tobacco 24mg PG - Sweet and warm on the 'draw' with a rich, deep tobacco note coupled with a very subtle tobacco aftertaste with the merest hint of roasted nuts. A Superbly smooth vape, always leaves you wanting more with it's distinctly sweet, well rounded, satisfying tobacco flavour, highly recommended.(5)

6. DK-TAB 24mg PG - A slightly sweet & smokey, medium strength tobacco flavour, a nice depth to the flavour but at the same time a mellow smooth vape, which is it's greatest strength as it is a great choice as an all day long vape. It produces a good amount of dense vapour, which made me at first recheck the bottle to make sure that it was a PG mix and not a VG mix. Leaves an overall dry aftertaste with a lingering sweet, an almost caramel-like smokey feel, very palatable. A perfect vape for starting your day with it's well rounded, mellow flavour and clean aftertaste.(5)

7. Cuba Cigar 24mg PG - A sweet earthy draw coupled with a harder edged throaty exhale, which leaves a pleasantly satisfying note of rich brown tobacco tones. A deeply rich 'mouth' combined with a sweetness that is never too much, result in a flavour that is both enjoyable and deeply satisfying. Definitely a Cigar flavour but not overly so, do not let the name fool you though into thinking that it is only for die hard cigar type vapers, it's an incredibly good tobacco flavour that never becomes too strong and is a positive delight as the vapour drifts across the tongue.(5)

8. RY4 24mg PG - A delightfully soft tobacco flavour complemented with a perfectly well rounded sweet 'mouth', hints of butterscotch & caramel combine with the smoothness of vanilla to give this unique blend it's distinctive aroma, be warned it is addictively moreish ! This sets a high bar for other tobacco based flavours to reach, the sweet draw mixed with the soft tobacco exhale leaves the mouth eagerly awaiting more. The richness of this flavour makes it the perfect choice as an all-day-everyday vape, the sweetness never becomes too much, the mellow tobacco flavour is always satisfying and the overall character is one of comforting warmth. (5)

Hardware issues

I started the review with a brand new atomiser and found that after vaping 30-35mls (for the review) and inspecting the coil & wick, that there was no deposits present and the coil was still working very well, not discernibly different from new. As a side note, I have been vaping Dekang PG mix 24mg Ry4 constantly through just one atomiser since the official Rok Star release date (8/11/11) and it is still going just fine, it has had a dry burn or two, but it is still giving off plenty of both vapour and flavour, so I cannot really see the other Dekang tobacco flavours being very much different.

Review Summary

The Dekang flavours represent not just a genuine tobacco aroma, depth and taste, but also (at £1.91 each for 10mls from Health Cabin) extremely good value for money, especially compared to the average UK vendor, but I have tried to ignore this fact during the process of reviewing as I felt that they should be wholly appraised on just their flavour and not their price. But unfortunately price is an important factor for many of us too and I am sure that I cannot be alone in always seeking to get value for my hard earned cash ? What I can tell you is this, that I adored the variety of these Dekang tobacco flavours in both depth and character, each one being quite distinctly different to all the rest. The 'Individuality' of character was a paramount factor to me during the process of reviewing them and anything less would of made this a completely miserable experience. Dekang have managed to capture a lot of the different tobacco essences and 'lock' it into their tobacco range and have managed to go a step further by enhancing it to such a fine degree that they all have a very deep characteristic notes. Out of all the flavours reviewed, the biggest surprise to me was, that the only flavour that I would not vape again would be the 'Cigar' flavour ! In the beginning I felt sure that at least half of them would be totally sickening and reside in the bottom of my waste bin, but I am truly shocked at how much I really enjoyed the flavours, but more importantly, it has changed my vaping habits too: I realised during the review (whilst alternating between flavours) that my 'all day-everyday vape' (RY4) had become noticeably sweeter to the taste and I can only put it down to the deeper and richer tobacco tones of the other blends having a strikingly effective action on my taste palate, allowing me to get even more out of my favourite vape, but like my Grandmother always told me, "Every days a school day", so now as a result of this review, I now have included some of these flavours into my regular vaping habits and I shall list them in order of preference;

RY4 - Obvious choice really and I am sure it was no surprise to many of you, lol. My everyday, all day vape, that has such a deep and well rounded character that it demands attention and I, for one, will endeavour to do so....or die trying, lol.
Turkish tobacco - Highly recommended, it's overall character is superbly smooth with a sweetly warm draw. I found this a very hard vape to put down, always going to refill it, rather than changing to another one of the flavours that I was supposed to be reviewing, it was one of those 'Sigh' moments.....Rather have it, than not have it.
French Pipe (FPF) - Just for that Lush signature note and it's almost bottomless depth of character, I will have this as a staple to my weekly routine, it begs for your indulgence and rewards you with a very dreamy, lose yourself in a Vape, sort of moment. A beautifully rich and deep character, one which I eagerly look forward to experiencing again & again.
DK-TAB - For it's ability to keep you wanting more, the depth of flavour and crisp aftertaste, make this an excellent day-light vape. Giving you the chance to savour other blends with a crisply clean palate during a quiet evening, for that alone it deserves its place here but given the flavour too, that doubles it's merits.
Cuba Cigar - For it's slightly harder hitting tobacco flavour and it's sweet, earthy thickness to the vapour, it gains a place in my heart and onto my regular daily vaping list. It's aromatic personality fits well into my 'taste' in vaping and I quite liked that 'Stoogie' feel it gave to my Rok Star.
Fluecured tobacco - The 'Big Gun' of the Dekang tobacco flavour world, a wonderfully powerful potion that deserves the occasional outing when you desperately need a HIGH DOSE nicotine intake with the accompanying full on taste that this delivers. Not an everyday vape, more a weekend treat for me.

Well that's my take on the Dekang Tobacco flavours, I hope it was as much use to all of you, as it was to me.

Review #2 - Rok Universal E-Liquids.

Reviewer's statement: I was given these two products by Rok Universal, for the purpose of doing this review and as a 'control' element in the PG vs VG E-Liquid in a Rok Star comparison test. Thanks must go to Rok Universal for kindly donating these two products for use in the two tests. Both liquids can be purchased from their site (please see 'links' page for full details of website) for £7.99 each for 10ml + P&P.

1. Virginia tobacco 24mg(or 2.4%, as label states) PG - Quite a good, although an unusual tobacco flavour, very sweet on the draw with a nice 'fairly' strong throat hit. Very little 'mouth' or even depth to the flavour, leaves a vaguely sweetish aftertaste and a fairly clean palate. The tobacco flavour itself has a softly sweet approach with a slightly cured taste, definitely not a big hitter in the tobacco stakes, but a good mild tobacco flavour for those of us who like the smooth and sweet tobacco taste. Not a flavour that will earn a great deal of 'kudos' amongst the die hard tobacco enthusiasts, but none-the-less a good sweet tobacco that may well appeal to those amongst you that are fond of the sweeter flavours and just fancy a change to a tobacco type of vape.(2)

2. Absinthe 24mg(or 2.4%, as label states) PG - A great flavour, the unmistakable taste of aniseed on the draw combined with a deep liqourice flavour on the exhale. A very nice vape, some other underlying tones to it that I could not discern properly enough to comment on, but a full on, flavour rich vape that is going to be a popular vape amongst the aniseed lovers out there. I have to remark on the colour of this one, a light green liquid, which seems to add to the overall appeal and it would be a great shame to stick in a cartomiser and lose the unusual look of it in the Rok Star's tank. Lingers well on the palate, not overly long, but just enough to keep you wanting to vape more of it and refresh the taste buds with it's almost aromatic depth.(5)

Hardware Issues.

Rok Universal sell these e-liquids as intentionally manufactured for use in their Rok Star electronic cigarette and as such, claim that their e-liquids leave no residue that would foul the atomiser and therefore shorten it's lifespan. Being PG based they offer excellent 'wicking' ability and coupled with the propylene glycol's natural tendency for a full flavour, these e-liquids should be well above average for the Rok Star. Bearing this in mind, I can categorically state that they do indeed leave no large visible residue on the atomiser coil and as to their e-liquid wicking performance ? They appear to work just as well as other PG based e-liquids that I have tried, tested or even reviewed.

Review Summary.

I would like to point out that Rok Universal's E-liquids are manufactured in the UK and are made from strict quality controlled EU ingredients and as such, they deserve praise for that, but as with all E-liquid reviews; taste and flavour, are the most important factors to consider when reviewing E-Juices.
The Virginia tobacco flavour was, in my opinion, far too sweet for a tobacco blend and after only two tanks I could not face the thought of vaping any more of it. As with all reviews, it's all a matter of personal taste and unfortunately I found the Virginia tobacco seems to get worse the more you vape it, until you get to the point (as I did) and no longer find it appealing at all. The absinthe flavour was a completely different 'kettle of fish', with it's combination of aniseed and liqourice, which I found incredibly moreish and almost addictive ! In fact as I was in the process of reviewing I asked other vapers to try it and found that EVERYBODY loved it to such a degree that they have either ordered it from Rok Universal or have asked me to get it for them and even when I told them the price (£7.99 for 10mls) they replied with statements like,"Price is not important, I want it !" or "Don't care, it's the dog's doodahs !" and most of these other vapers had previously tried aniseed flavoured e-juices at half the price and been very happy with those. As for me ? Well, I must admit to be quite shocked at how Rok Universal can be so wrong with their Virginia Tobacco but so very right with their Absinthe, but putting that aside, I will be ordering more of this fine E-Juice in the near future BUT I did find that it altered the taste of my all-day-every-day vape that is Dekang RY4 and I can only put this down to the reaction it had on my palate, so I will only be vaping the absinthe when I stealth vape away from home, but believe me when I say that I am already looking forward to that day, in fact I am off now to 'practise' my stealth vaping techniques in my shed at the bottom of my garden, now where's the rest of my absinthe ? Ah, there you are...............Yummy !

Review #3 - Vermillion River

Reviewers statement: I purchased these from Liberty Flights for the purpose of reviewing them at a cost of £2.69 each for a 5ml bottle including P&P (FREE POST).

1. Classic Blend - A warm tasting, smokey draw with an almost hickory aftertaste on the exhale, mildly sweet with a deep, rich 'cured' tobacco note to it. An incredibly realistic tobacco flavour, earthy and rich, with a distinctive flavour that will gain respect from vapers who love their tobaccos. The deepness of this blend lends itself well to those vapers who previously were pipe and cigar smokers, as it has bags of 'mouth' and tons of 'depth', but that is not all; it's aromatic presence is completely dominating, just like a good cigar or pipe tobacco, leaving everybody in no doubt as to what type of flavours you like to vape. Some may find it too strong, others may dislike the strong edge the blend is endowed with but that's where it's strength lies, in it's chameleon like ability to be just like the dreaded weed, albeit a very strong cured tobacco flavour. Not one for the faint hearted amongst us, one that I feel will only be truly appreciated by a tobacco connoisseur.(5)

2. Kentucky Premium Blend - A light tobacco taste with a very pronounced creamy caramel overtone to it, not too sweet, but unfortunately no real tobacco depth to it. More a smokey caramel than a blended tobacco flavour, but that does not make it a bad vape at all and I would recommend this to those amongst us who are caramel fans, as the caramel side of it seems to gather pace and presence with every draw you take, which shamefully covers the very little tobacco flavour it does actually have.(2)

3. Kentucky Cherrywood - Very similar to the premium blend but with an added cherry dryness to the flavour, a good throat hit to the draw. I found that the added cherry note to it is a step in the right direction as it detracts from the overly present caramel that I found in the premium blend version, the caramel note is still present but only as an acceptable light aftertaste. This blend has a dry/slightly sweet cherryness to the draw and a reasonable amount of 'mouth', which leaves a subtle smokey caramel flavour on the exhale. That said, it is far better than the Premium blend and much nearer a true blended tobacco taste.(5)

4. Kentucky Maplewood - I personally could not tell too much difference in this and the Kentucky Premium blend, but the slight differences that it does have make for an incredibly moreish vape, it seemed to have a bit more vapour production and a little less caramel to it, but certainly no distinguishable maple overtones. Maple flavouring, more specifically maple leaf flavouring, is incredibly subtle compared to maple syrup flavouring and I think that that is where Vermillion River have failed in the composition of this e-liquid. But I must stress that I could vape this all day long, as it never seems to get to the overblown caramel point that the Premium blend seems to reach and as such deserves recommendation over both the Kentucky Premium and the Kentucky cherrywood.(5)

5. Kentucky Blend No.7 - This was one I was eagerly looking forward to, in fact this was the whole reason I thought about reviewing the Vermillion River tobacco range at all, as I am a Jack Daniels No.7 drinker myself and I am sure that you can imagine my anticipation about trying this Kentucky tobacco blend mixed with an old Kentucky favourite ! But unfortunately this is exactly the same taste as the Premium Blend but with an very strong stale beer taste, there is absolutely nothing to recommend this blend to any other vaper and it wins the much coveted 'I would rather vape my own urine' award. In truth I could not even manage to vape a tankful and had to empty the liquid out and give the atomiser a good vodka clean afterwards to remove any & all traces of this sickly E-Juice.(0.5)

Hardware issues.

Nothing of note to mention, all the E-juices wicked well and left no substantial deposits on the coil or wick.

Review summary

As always, this review is my personal opinion and nothing more, that being said I feel that the high reputation that Vermillion River has amongst vapers is a tad overblown when compared to Chinese Dekang E-juices. The Kentucky Maplewood blend was by far my favourite of those reviewed but I could not help but notice the similarity it has to DK-Tab (Dekang), the mild tobacco note with the addition of a certain caramel type of sweetness can be stated about both of them BUT DK-Tab is far superior in it's flavour and mouth, making the Maplewood seem course by comparison. The Classic blend was a shock, a real shock ! With it's strong cured tobacco flavour it reminded me (yet again) of the Dekang Flue cured tobacco, both have the same full on flavour that I must admit to being quite fond of, but again the Dekang version is just a touch better than the Vermillion River version, only by a small margin but a noticeable one.

Would I purchase these again ? Well, I would not be unhappy if I was given a bottle of either the Classic blend or the Maplewood Kentucky blend but I would only ever use them if I had run out of Dekang Flue cured or DK Tab respectively. Would I buy it ? No, it has nothing more to give the vaper than the Dekang versions have got and it offers far less in the way of satisfaction to a serious tobacco vaper compared to Dekang as well.

The Kentucky blend No.7, Kentucky Premium & the Cherrywood Kentucky blend are ones to stay well away from, as they range from sickly sweet (Premium blend) to completely unvapable (No.7 blend), but I do say this as a tobacco vaper, if you like caramel then try the Premium blend, if you would like a little less caramel then try the Cherrywood blend and if you are happy to vape your own bodies waste liquids then the Kentucky blend No.7 is right up your street.
